"Adverse medical outcomes cause great distress to patients, especially if followed by unclear explanations from the treating team. The poor outcome may or may not arise out of negligence - it depends on the circumstances. I am often asked to analyse complex medical/legal situations and am conscious of the need to provide advice in a caring and understandable way."

Dr Christopher Atkins MBBS, Dip RACOG, MHA, LLB(Hons), FACLM

Since his admission to practice in 1998, Dr Christopher Atkins has practiced in the firm’s injury compensation division. He was appointed a Senior Associate of this firm in 2000. He is regarded as an expert in all areas of health and medical law.

He is one of a small number of lawyers in Victoria who is also a qualified and practising medical practitioner. As such he is often better able to understand and provide advice, particularly in medical negligence matters, compared to other lawyers.

Chris’ expert knowledge of both legal and medical matters makes him invaluable to the firm’s injury compensation division.

In addition to working at Galbally & O’Bryan Chris continues to consult as a General Medical Practitioner in Woodend and also lectures students in medical law at Monash University.
